I've decided to ring in the new years by trying out some of the 30 day memes I've seen around that interest me. The first one up is the 30 days of Video Games.

Day 1 - Your very first video game.
Day 2 - Your favorite character.
Day 3 - An underrated game.
Day 4 - Your guilty pleasure game.
Day 5 - Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were).
Day 6 - Most annoying character.
Day 7 - Favorite game couple.
Day 8 - Best soundtrack.
Day 9 - Saddest game scene.
Day 10 - Best gameplay.
Day 11 - Gaming system of choice.
Day 12 - A game everyone should play.
Day 13 - A game you’ve played more than five times.
Day 14 - Current (or most recent) gaming wallpaper.
Day 15 - Post a screenshot from the game you’re playing right now.
Day 16 - Game with the best cut scenes.
Day 17 - Favorite antagonist.
Day 18 - Favorite protagonist.
Day 19 - Picture of a game setting you wish you lived in.
Day 20 - Favorite genre.
Day 21 - Game with the best story.
Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you.
Day 23 - Game you think had the best graphics or art style.
Day 24 - Favorite classic game.
Day 25 - A game you plan on playing.
Day 26 - Best voice acting.
Day 27 - Most epic scene ever.
Day 28 - Favorite game developer.
Day 29 - A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving.
Day 30 - Your favorite game of all time.

This is really hard because I've pretty much played video games my entire life, so trying to pinpoint exactly which game was my first is near impossible.

Resident Evil 2 Cover

When I first read the question, I went: Oh, easy! My first PlayStation game was Resident Evil 2. For some reason my like 6-7 year old self, who was as afraid of horror then as I am now, thought that getting a horror game was a good thing. I think it was because my neighbor (who got everything they wanted) had the first Resident Evil, and I was made to think that having it was cool. That, and I could actually watch them play if I wasn't holding the controller. My parents knew I wouldn't like it but bought it for me anyway. I played it for like 5 minutes, freaked out, and never touched it again. I did think it was awesome that there were two discs, so you could play as either the boy or the girl.

Then I realized--no, that's not right. I've played video games before that. The next video game that I thought was my first was Home Alone 2: Escape from New York for the PC.

There were a lot of random trash cans in that game.

I vaguely remember being 4 and playing this game on my dads (then state-of-the-art) DOS computer. A lot. Even though I'm pretty sure I didn't know what was going on, but I really didn't care.

These don't represent the games I owned, it just looks cool.

But is it my first video game? I then remembered my father owned a Nintendo. I know I also used to play said Nintendo, even though I don't think I could read the words or figure out what was going on. There was some sort of side-scrolling fighting game, jeopardy (which was fun considering I don't think I could read it yet), wheel of fortune, and The Legend of Zelda. But I still don't know if one of those were my first video game.

So the short answer: I have no idea.
