So How Diverse is DC's new line?

I was curious, with DC claiming their new line would be modern and diverse, just how diverse their releases have been so far, so I broke them down.

Note: Certain characters (like Deadman) I listed as white, as he was white before he died.  Same with Swamp thing and Frankenstein.  Feel free to argue with me on them.  And I have Batman in Parenthesis because he's in like 80 different covers.  I listed him once, then in parenthesis from then on, so the original number represents how many different characters there were, while in the parenthesis shows how many total were depicted on covers.

Yup.

But honestly, how many of those women and minority characters had ongoings before? Not many.

That is true. And I'm looking forward to quite a few of them.

As am I. And part of me hates myself for it, because I'm not a fan of the relaunch idea.

I know, right? I'm against the very idea of the relaunch, but a lot of these titles do sound great. And one of them (Resurrection Man by Abnett and Lanning) is the one exact thing I've been wanting from DC for years and years.

How can I properly hate on such a bad idea when a decent amount of the comics actually sound good? T_T

I know exactly what you mean. There is no good way. Damn it, DC.

Maybe this was their evil plan all along?

well, you're losing Power Girl and Zatanna ongoings to pick up Batwoman and Voodoo. Catwoman is essentially replacing Gotham City Sirens. Birds of Prey, Supergirl and Wonder Woman remain. Doesn't seem like much has changed in all honesty.

Except they're taking away my Power Girl D:

But Batwoman! :D

*is conflicted.

[identity profile] red_confession.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
True. Though Catwoman replaces GCS, all three of those characters are still in books, so it's not a total replacement.

Though I don't read her ongoing, I am a fan of Power Girl (I can only buy so many comics T_T) and I'm sad that she isn't getting her own ongoing (unless they magically don't make action comics anymore, which I doubt). Hopefully they'll put her in the JLI until time passes for her to get her own ongoing again once some of the launch books inevitably fail.
