I tried choosing between the two, but I decided to go with a tie:

My first instinct was to go with the PS3. It's my console of choice, and is awesome because it can play original Playstation and PS3 games, and can play both Blu-Ray and DVDs. It also has Netflix. I love the idea of being able to see what my friends are playing, and the game selection is pretty good. It's where I can play Little Big Planet and Assassins Creed.

Then I looked at my DS. It's been with me the longest out of all the "next gen" systems, and although most people seem to find it useless I'm quite fond of it. The games are fantastic if you dig through all the crap. Some of my favorite games are DS games: Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Hotel Dusk, The World Ends With You... I love the fact I can take it anywhere and can play wherever I want, on my terms.
